PERCS: Perennial Ecosystem Restoration for Carbon Sequestration in Canadian Agricultural Landscapes

Working alongside partners in industry, community, and government, we investigate how perennial vegetation can strengthen the sustainability of Canadian agriculture. Our team studies the ecological and social dimensions of hedgerows and riparian buffers, emphasizing how well-connected habitat edges boost biodiversity, store carbon, and contribute to resilient, productive agricultural landscapes.

The interdisciplinary PERCS team is funded by the NSERC-SSHRC Sustainable Agriculture Initiative.

The research team of PERCS acknowledges that our field sites are located on the traditional, ancestral, and unceded territory of the scəw̓aθən (Tsawwassen), xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), Semiahmoo, kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), and Stó:lō Nations, including the Katzie, Kwantlen, Matsqui, and Sumas peoples. We recognize their enduring connection to this land and are grateful for the opportunity to learn and work in the Fraser Valley region of British Columbia.
